Bleeding after extraction:
  • Gently rinse your mouth with cool water to help feel fresh and identify where the bleeding is coming from.
  • Using the gauze pads supplied or a clean handkerchief, moisten them a little and roll into a sausage shape.
  • Apply the gauze across where the bleeding is adapting it as required to fit and apply pressure.
  • Keep this applied for 15 minutes and then re-check the area.
  • If needed repeat the process.

If you are unsuccessful after an hour or so then come into the surgery. If you are out of normal surgery hours then go to your local A&E department.

It is not unusual to experience some swelling and discomfort for a few days. However, if you have persisting pain, or bleeding then contact the surgery.

Severe Toothache:

If you have pain lasting for more than 5-10 minutes at a time then you need to come and see one of our dentists. We will see patients the same day if you have throbbing tooth ache.

Out of hours you can contact the emergency dental service - in Hailsham or Lewes. Click here for details.

Swelling:

If you suddenly develop a large swelling of your face or cheek, it might be due to a dental abscess. In cases such as this, which are swelling more rapidly, you will need to see one of the dentists here at the surgery. If you are outside normal surgery hours, then you will be best to go to your local hospital accident and emergency department.

Problems after Dental Implant Surgery:

You will have been given the direct contact details for the surgeon. Please do not hesitate to contact them for advice. If there is bleeding, follow the steps above. In any case, please call and we will be happy to help.
