Restoring Strength and Function to Damaged Teeth
A crown (also known as a cap) is sometimes constructed and used to fix teeth which have been badly broken or weakened by decay. They can also be used to restore teeth that have large fillings in them and the remainder of the tooth is starting to deteriorate. It’s a strong way to restore damaged teeth, especially in cases of extensive decay and following root canal treatment.
The dental crown procedure typically involves two appointments. During the first appointment, the tooth is prepared by removing any decay and shaping it to accommodate the crown. Digital impressions are then taken and sent to our dental laboratory to mill the crown. You will leave with a temporary crown in place.

Preserving Tooth Integrity
After Root Canal Treatment
Crowns are also recommended for teeth that have undergone root canal treatment as this helps protect the remaining tooth, preventing it from splitting which of course would be catastrophic for the tooth. Crowns are not needed in all cases and we will make our recommendations accordingly.

Dental crowns can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years or more, depending on various factors such as oral hygiene practices, bite forces, and the materials used for the crown.
Dental crowns can be made from various materials including porcelain, gold, ceramic, metal alloys or a combination of these. The best option for you depends on factors like the location of the tooth, your budget, and aesthetic preferences. Your dentist will recommend the most suitable material based on your specific needs.
The dental crown procedure typically involves two appointments. During the first appointment, the tooth is prepared by removing any decay (if necessary) and shaping it to accommodate the crown. Impressions are then taken and sent to a dental lab to fabricate the crown and you’ll leave with a temporary crown in place.
At the second appointment, the temporary crown is removed, and your new custom-made crown is fitted and cemented into place.
To ensure the longevity of your dental crown, it’s important to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing twice a day and cleaning carefully between your teeth using floss/interdental brushes as recommended by your dentist or hygienist.
Avoid chewing hard objects like ice or pens, and visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings. Following these guidelines will help your dental crown stay in optimal condition for years to come.
